No Disclaimers Book Tag

Hi, friends! Today I am doing a tag that I saw Brittany do last week, check out her post here. This tag seems pretty fun and since I haven’t ever really done one before (other than the intro tag I did on my previous joint blog, which you can read here if you want) so this seemed like a good one to start with!

Without further ado, onto the tag!

Which trope(s) in books annoy you the most?

This is a pretty hard question for me because I feel like I do not get annoyed by tropes that much, I kind of like having familiar patterns to help ease me into new stories a little bit. I really do not like girl hate, which I really hope isn’t considered a trope but given how often I see it, it could be? I also just don’t think it when the parents of teenagers are just non existent in a situation where they should very much be existent. Why are all of these 16 and 17 year olds in contemporaries not mentioning their parents at all when they should theoretically still live with them?

Which authors do you feel are overrated/overhyped?

The first person that popped into my head is Sarah J. Maas. I couldn’t get into the one book of hers that I tried to read and I have heard so many other things about her books that I do not really want to try to read any of her others.

What are your least favorite books you’ve read since starting your book blog?

So I only started this book blog in late December, so there hasn’t been much time but what I can come up with is:

The Matched Triology by Ally Condie

  • All I remember about this trilogy is that I hated it the entire time until the last book was somewhat interesting but also not interesting at all. The characters were very cliche and some parts of the the plot were just a hot mess and it was a lot for me.

The Truth About Leaving by Natalie Britt

  • I have a full review of this book coming closer it its release date! But basically this book made me feel super uncomfy at points and I just didn’t really like it much until the very very end.

What is a terrible ending that ruined an otherwise quality book?

Oh boy, as soon as I saw this my brain started screaming Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare but that is a bag of worms to deal with another day, so I am going to go with Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins and Allegiant by Veronica Roth because both of those endings were just very disappointing. I feel like that one big thing at the end of Allegiant was somewhat very unnecessary and that the very end of Mockingjay was very out of character. I feel like at this point I need to write a full review on Mockingjay so maybe that will come soon, or never, tbh it’ll probably be never.

Which fictional character(s) do you wish was not killed off?

Wow, so many? Basically every non-villain in Cassandra Clare books. Basically everyone who died in the Harry Potter series.

What are some of your bookish peeves?

The fact that most of the times paperbacks do not come out until a year after the book is released. When book formatting is messed up in ebooks to the point that they are unreadable. When a series changes cover styles on like book four and they no longer match. Weak endings!! I hate weak endings a lot.

What are some books you think deserve more recognition?

Oh boy I could spend a whole lot of time talking about this, I actually have a whole post planned about it. But a super quick list:

Elementals by Brigid Kemmerer

  • I will only stop screaming about this series when everyone I know has read it, so basically I will never stop screaming about this series. Is it perfect? No. Are the definite and clear problems with it? Yes. Do I care? Not really. Why? This book series is probably my favorite of all time. I read these books in middle school and loved them, they were super addictive and I flew through them. After that, they became those books I would automatically grab when I needed a pick me up. At this point, I can probably quote half of the first two books from memory. Reading these books is like coming home. Anyways, I’m reading these books right before my second semester starts to help calm me down so expect reviews and other content about these books soon.

Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmidt

  • I don’t read books in one sitting. Its not a thing I do, I am not capable of sitting still for long periods of time, I get far to antsy. That said, I read this book in one sitting. I cannot describe how impactful this book is, I can just say that you should read this. Apparently I wrote some sort of mini review for this on goodreads a while back, you can read it here.

Darius the Great Is Not Okay by Adib Khorram

  • Please read this book. I don’t really have any actual means of persuading you to read this book, but I really really want you too.

What are your thoughts on censorship and banning books?

I will admit that I do not have that many thoughts because this has never been a discussion I have involved myself in. I think that censorship and banning books is bad because I feel that everyone should have the opportunity to read what they want when they want.

Tag some people!

I’m going to go ahead and tag Shelby, Katelyn, and anyone else who wants to do this!

That’s about it for me today. What are some books you think deserve more recognition?

  1. Ah, I didn’t get the notification that you tagged me! So glad you did this one. I am also a hater of the ending of Allegiant. THE MOST UNNECESSARY ENDING TO EVER EXIST. I’m still upset about it. I am also bugged by paper backs taking an extremely long time to be released when the book has already been published for who knows how long. And I have legitimately always assumed that my Ereader was messing up & I was the only one that got ebooks with insane formatting… Now I no longer feel alone on that struggle.

    Great answers!❤️

    1. Thank you, Brittany! I mean, I understand why they wait to release paperbacks, but it still annoys me. I just want my paperbacks when the books come out. And I love ebooks, but sometimes I am a little wary of getting them because I know that they mess up sometimes.
