Coffee Book Tag

Fun fact about me: I love coffee. I drank it for the first time during Sunday school the one day I went to the one I was supposed to given my age instead of helping in the kindergarten class and from then on I was hooked. That was about five years ago, so I have explored the coffee scene enough to tell you that I love Eight O’clock dark coffee with two spoons of sugar and an obscene amount of French vanilla creamer. I am also very found of caramel frappes, I drank way too many this past year of college. Like, way too many. Like, I was venmoing random friends money to grab me one while I was out and doordashing them to my dorm room.

Anyways, that was my very long winded way of saying that I love coffee and am very excited that this tag exists. I was tagged by Emma at Emma’s Books! I honestly freaked out when I saw I had been tagged because, um, I love coffee. Wow this intro is becoming way to long so I’ll um move onto the tag now.

Black Coffee: Name a series that is hard to get into but has hardcore fans.

The Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare

I am a hardcore fan of this series, but I know just how overwhelming and hard to get into it can be. There are like, sixteen books or something like that which is enough to turn people off (justifiably lol). On top of that, City of Bones isn’t exactly high class literature which and sometimes turn even those willing to start it off. It’s basically just a lot for people to take in, but I would highly recommend trying it out because Clary Fairchild!! My baby!! You get to see her in action!! There are also demons, lots of LGBT+ rep, lots of ships, and um, other stuff that is very exciting but I cannot think of right now.

Peppermint Mocha: A book that gets more popular during the winter or festive time of the year. 

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

I haven’t read this book, but I feel like every booktuber ever was talking about it this past December. I might get around to it this holiday season, but no promises lol. I may end up doing another spontaneous reread of The Infernal Devices this December instead of reading holiday books, it is very likely if I’m being honest.

Hot Chocolate: What is your favorite children’s book?

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

“Once there was a tree, and she loved a little boy.”

I love this book! It is super cute and it’s been read to me countless of times. I have also read it to kids countless of times. It’s my mom’s favorite book and she has three copies (one for our house and one for each of her classrooms), so it comes up pretty often. I don’t know why I love it so much, but I do.

Starbucks: Name a book you see everywhere.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This is another book I haven’t read but really need to. It came out a month or two ago, I think, and it was everywhere. There was a girl on instagram wearing a shirt with the book on the cover, there were countless tweets and booktube vidoes about it, my local Barnes and Noble had an entire display dedicated to it, it was a lot. The hype is real with this one.

That Hipster Coffee Shop: Give a book by an indie author a shout out. 

Erimentha Parker’s To Do List by Ruby Granger

This question brought to my attention the fact that I hardly ever read indie books, given that this is the only one I can come up with. I only read it because the ebook was 1.99 and I follow the author on youtube and all of her other social media. She got me through my AP exams, so major shout out to her.

Oops! I Accidentally Got Decaf: Name a book you were expecting more from.

Call It What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer

Okay, this is a tough one to explain. This book wasn’t bad, I even gave it a four star rating, but like, I wanted more? I didn’t have many things that I found wrong with it, but it still just felt all around lacking. I don’t know what else I wanted from it (I didn’t even know what it was about going in), but there is just something that I can’t put my finger on that this didn’t have that I wanted. I would say it is similar to the time my mom bought me decaf coffee and sugar free creamer mid-AP season because she thought I was drinking too much coffee.

The Perfect Blend: Name a series that was both bitter and sweet but ultimately satisfying. 

Lorien Legacies by Pittacus Lore

This is another really complicated one, because I feel like I complained about this series a lot while I was reading it. I felt like it was way too long and that the characters didn’t have much depth, the female characters especially. The plot got a little too repetitive and the suspension of disbelief was pretty nonexistent towards the end. However, when I look back on it, I do feel satisfied? I really got into the last book, which surprised me. I also don’t have as many negative feelings towards the characters now. This could all just be that I am glad that I finally finished the series so I only see the positives, but whatever.
