I Did Xandra (Starry Sky Books)’s 24 Hour Readathon

Hi, friends!! I love a good readathon, mainly because my brain loves having a task and during readathons I can say that reading is that task and actually focus on books for more than like, five minutes at a time. So, when Xandra announced that she was going to be hosting 24 hour readathons this summer, I freaked out. Luckily, the first one was planned on a day I don’t have work, so I got to participate! (I mean, I could technically partially participate if I was working but it would take like a fourth of the day and I would have to go to bed early, so really I can’t).

Per usual when I do a readathon, I kept a log (because my brain also loves keeping track of things and being able to see what my reading speed per hour is on average). I also took some snapchat photos throughout the day and sent them to some very confused friends, one of whom responded “? you reading so much?” Anyways, onto the actual, like, content of this post.

Hour One: I had intended to start this readathon out with a new book, but I didn’t end up finishing my current read before I left for work and didn’t want to attempt to rush it in the forty minutes I had left between getting home and the readathon starting, so I ended up starting the readathon on page 281 of Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit. By the end of the hour, I had gotten to page 390.

Hour Two: Not too far into the hour, I finished Georgia Peaches. I had intended to go to bed as soon as I finished it because I’ve actually been doing pretty decent at the whole “sleep schedule” thing lately, but I couldn’t get to sleep, so I started and got to page 26 of How To Make A Wish.

Hour Three: Got to page 58 of How To Make A Wish, then I finally went to bed (way earlier than normal for readathons! I’m proud of myself).

Hour Four – Nine: Sleeping

Hour Ten: Around 9:40ish, I finally woke up, then I laid in bed for a bit looking at my phone, then I finally managed to get up the energy to go downstairs and fix myself a bagel.

Hour Eleven: After making my bagel, I ate it (wow, betcha didn’t see that one coming, did ya?). During and for a little bit after, I watched Colleen Ballinger’s video on Flynn because he is adorable and I couldn’t resist. Then I remembered I was like, supposed to be reading, so I did and got to page 104 of How To Make A Wish.

Hour Twelve: I am pretty sure I spent most of this hour reading, because I got to page 180 of How To Make A Wish.

Hour Thirteen: At this point, my thumb was hurting from holding a physical book because it is something I haven’t done in a while, so I started listening to Red Scrolls of Magic. By the end of the hour I got to page 91.

Hour Fourteen: My thumb wasn’t hurting that bad anymore, so I picked How To Make A Wish back up and got to page 248.

Hour Fifteen: At this point my bagel was wearing off and also I was starting to get tired, so I went downstairs and made toast and a coffee. While doing that I listened to Red Scrolls of Magic some more, getting up to page 128. After I finished my toast, I went back up stairs and ended up finishing How To Make A Wish (which made me feel Emotions).

Hour Sixteen: I was uncertain of what I wanted to read next, so I just kept listening to Red Scrolls of Magic and got to page 184.

Hour Seventeen: Around this time I decided that I was going to let myself rereading The Mortal Instruments since I have been thinking about it a lot lately, so I kept listening and got to page 258 of Red Scroll of Magic.

Hour Eighteen: I finished Red Scrolls of Magic, then had to pause for a second because I was once again feeling Emotions.

Hour Nineteen: At this point I took a bit of a break because I was kind of worn out because I normally don’t focus for this long (sad but true). I also ate dinner. Then I eventually started City of Bones and got to page 33.

Hour Twenty: I meant to have this hour be fully dedicated to reading since I had just taken such a big break, but I somehow ended up soaking my feet in Epsom salt water (my feet suffer in the summer, its a problem). I also ended up eating desert. However, I did somehow manage to get to page 112 of City of Bones so I guess it wasn’t an entire waste of an hour.

Hour Twenty-One: At this point I switched to the audiobook of City of Bones because the tiredness was hardcore setting in, I ended up getting to page 219.

Hour Twenty-Two: I kept on listening to the audiobook of City of Bones, getting to page 324 and running out of lives on all of my regularly played games on my phone.

Hour Twenty-Three: At this point I decided that I was going to finish this book before midnight despite that not being my original plan, so I got to page 426.

Hour Twenty-Four: I ended up managing to finish City of Bones! Then I had to take a moment to prepare myself for Taylor Swift to drop her newest single (have you listened to it yet?? If not, please do, its amazing and it supports the gays).

Okay, well, that is the end of the log!

Here is my page count for the day and a recount of what I read for the day:

  • The last 138 pages of Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit
    • Rating: ☆☆☆
  • All 324 pages of How To Make A Wish
    • Rating: ☆☆☆☆
  • All 345 pages of Red Scrolls of Magic
    • Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆
  • All 485 pages of City of Bones
    • Rating: ☆☆☆
  • Final page count: 1,292

Well, that’s all from me for today! If you want to participate in Xandra’s next 24 hour readathon, it is next Tuesday, June 18th! I am not sure if I will be participating or not yet, it will depend on how I function at work tonight because I am once again off Tuesday, but not the day before or day after.

How about you guys? Have you ever read any of these books? Have you ever done a 24 hour readathon? Let’s chat in the comments!

  1. Ahh, thank you so much for participating, Arin! 😊 It was so much fun to read your log! I have not read any of those books, but they sound good.

I haven’t had time to count all of the pages I read, but I know for a fact that you were so much more productive than me! I didn’t even sleep during the 24 hours, and you still managed to read more! 😂 1,292 is a great amount of pages read! Maybe that should be my goal for next time…

    1. Thanks so much both for hosting this awesome readathon and for your comment!! I can’t imagine not sleeping for 24 hours, it has always been a goal of mine to do a full 24 hours like that, but I just don’t think I’ll be pulling it off anytime soon lol. I have no idea how I read so much, other than I really enjoy a good audiobook and/or reread during a readathon!!

    1. I honestly have no idea how I read that much, I added up the pages at the end of the day and went ?. I guess it is that I spent half the day rereading books that I know like the back of my hand haha.
