Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag + A Hiatus Announcement

Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag

Hi, friends! Can you guys believe it is already halfway through the year? I know I can’t. 2019 is flying by and it is honestly kind of overwhelming to think about. However, today we are going to try and talk about all of the good books I’ve read this year and all of the good books I hope to read before the year is over. I have seen this tag going around forever, I remember how I used to watch booktubers do it before I had any bookish social media and think that it looked like a lot of fun. So this year, when Brittany tagged me I knew I had to do it.

Anyways, onto the tag where I will do my best to not freak out about how fast time is passing.

What is the best book that you’ve read so far in 2019?

Red, White & Royal Blue!!!!! It was so much fun, I will most likely reread it soon. I miss Prince Henry and Alex a whole lot.

What has been your favorite sequel of the year so far?

This was a super hard question to answer, but after a lot of thinking, I decided on More Than We Can Tell by Brigid Kemmerer. I read it for the first time this January and I loved it so much. The characters were A+.

Is there a new release that you haven’t read yet but you’re really excited to?

I Wish You All The Best!!! It was on my TBR for this month but I just don’t think I’ll have time to get to it this week. I do want to read it soon though!

What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

Wayward Son! I need more Baz and Simon in my life.

What is your biggest disappointment so far?

I posted a two star review of The Foxhole Court that explains all of my feelings pretty well, but I just didn’t like this book the way I really really wanted to.

What is your biggest surprise so far?

Little Fires Everywhere! I didn’t even expect to enjoy this book, but it had me completely enthralled from start to finish. I highly recommend it.

What is your favorite new to you or debut author?

Casey McQuiston! I may have only read her debut, but I know that she will most likely be one of my all time favorite authors.

Who is your favorite fictional crush from this year?

I don’t get fictional crushes? I have only had one in real life crush so it seems a bit unrealistic for me to develop a fictional one lol.

Who is your new favorite character?

Realistically, it is way too hard for me to try and figure out which of the new characters I have come to love is my favorite, so instead I am just going to go with Charlie Swan from Twilight. He is an icon, also I got him as an answer on a Buzzfeed quiz and I am still not over it. Anyways, Charlie is the best character in Twilight and you will most likely have to deal with me saying that a lot.

A book that made you cry?

Autoboyography made me cry a whole bunch of tears. I feel like I need to preface this by saying that this isn’t a sad book, it just made me feel a lot of Emotions. It handled the topic of religion and sexuality so so well and I loved it for that.

A book that made you happy?

The Red Scrolls of Magic is one of my favorite shadowhunter novels so far. It was just so fun? Like, we got to watch Malec bound and get to know each other as they travelled around Europe. Also Aline was being a super cute baby gay and Helen was there. All around, it was amazing and made me super happy.

You’re favorite book to movie/tv show that you’ve seen so far?

Okay so, I first watched The Miseducation of Cameron Post film last December after I read the book for the first time, but it is still my favorite adaptation and also one of the only ones I have watched this year. I have also seen it three times this year, so I feel like it should count.

What is the most beautiful book that you have bought?

I haven’t bought that many books this year and I don’t know that any of them are like, the most beautiful book ever, but I am attached to this UK movie version of The Miseducation of Cameron Post that I bought, mainly because the cover is super smooth.

What is your favorite post that you have written so far this year?

I can’t choose just one, but I think it is really ironic that the first two posts I thought of were my least popular and my most popular posts on my blog. The most least popular is my 6 Reasons Why I Love Elementals by Brigid Kemmerer. I loved getting to finally figure out what exactly it is that I loved about the series and let myself just dedicate an entire post to them. The most popular is a collaboration with my mom lol, when My Mom Guessed YA Book Plots Based Off Their Covers.

What are six books that you want to read by the end of the year?

  1. Dress Codes for Small Towns by Courtney Stevens
  2. Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
  3. The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker
  4. Girl Out of Water by Laura Silverman
  5. Heartstopper by Alice Oseman
  6. Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden

That’s the end of the tag!! Now for the super less fun part of this post that I wish on so many levels I didn’t have to make.

Hiatus Announcement

I’m going on hiatus. I have no idea how long or anything like that. There is a really good chance I will continue to blog hop and interact with others, but I do not think I will be able to keep posting at least for the next little bit. My grandmother, who I was very very close to, passed away very unexpectedly early yesterday morning while on vacation out of state. It has been so unbelievably hard to me to process this, especially since she was not home when it happened. I think that I just need to find time to do what my mom keeps referring to as “finding the new normal” and processing what happened. I have tried to work on some posts this evening to make myself feel like things are normal and I have found that it is really hard for me to write right now. I’ve had this post in my drafts for a while, so I just decided to post it early with this announcement. I just need some time to figure things out and as bad as it sounds, I just don’t want to have to worry about blogging while I do that.

Anyways, you’ll probably see me around reading and commenting on your posts! I have no idea when I’ll be back to posting my own content, most likely whenever this weird grief induced writer’s block leaves. I may also just pop in with a post or two here and there. Basically, I don’t know anything but I will do my best to stick around as much as I can.

  1. Oh Arin, I’m so sorry for your loss! If you ever need to talk, don’t hesitate to reach out. ❤
On a more uplifting note, I loved this post! Do you mind if I do it (I'll tag you in it ofc) you always have such interesting and little known books, and every tag you post I find myself adding more books to my TBR!
