May 2020 Wrap Up

Hi, friends! Before I jump into my normal post, I want to talk for a minute about Black Lives Matter. I know that you have probably seen all of this around before, but I wanted to encourage you to sign the petitions going around. If you have the monetary means, I encourage you to donate as well. I have donated to the Richmond Community Bail Fund and the Minnesota Freedom Fund (who is now encouraging people to donate to other organizations), but there are so many more, try to donate to your local area if you can. I can’t do much and do not have a significant platform, but I want to do what I can with the platform I have. Now, onto the post.

Hi, friends! It is a little late for a May wrap up, but this is the first time I have had some time off to type one up, so there is that. Also, I did reread Harry Potter in May and I would just like to make it extraordinarily clear that I do not support JK Rowling in any way, shape, or form and will not be buying anything HP related ever again. Support trans authors, buy own voices books, fuck JK Rowling.

Non-Bookish Things from May:

IRL Things:

  • I finished my second year of college!!!
  • I got into the college I have been wanting to transfer to! I’m in the process of signing up for fall classes right now and I am actually excited about the classes I am going to take? That hasn’t been the case for a hot minute and I’m really excited.
  • I actually went to the doctor and got my meds changed! This probably seems like an odd thing to put on a list like this, but so far these new meds have actually been working really well and it is such a relief.

Music and Podcasts:

  • Always Here
    • This is a queer history podcast that I have been listening to recently. I am up in the air as to whether I would recommend it or not bc I have noticed some historical inaccuracies in a few episodes, but it is still pretty fun to listen to.
  • Fine Line by Harry Styles
    • Listen, I know that I am very late to this album, but I am in love with it. Watermelon Sugar is a bop, I will take no questions.

I would like to say here that I did watch four Harry Potter movies in May but I am very annoyed with myself for having to mention the books in this post, so I am not going to highlight them here.

  • The Half of It (2020)
    • I will soon rewatch this movie and write a whole post on it, but I love this movie so damn much. I cried, I laughed, I wouldn’t shut up about it for like a week. Please watch this if you haven’t already, the sapphic yearning is god tier. Also, follow Alice Wu on twitter.

Finally, the books from May:

  • Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray
    • ☆☆☆☆
    • Read from 5/29-5/31
    • There was no need for Claudia Gray to make me relate to a highly anxious Obi Wan like that, and yet, that is exactly what she did.

Okay, so, that’s it? May went by super fast and kind of just happened, but I am hoping to read and do many more things this month, so hopefully June’s wrap up is more interesting.

  1. This is amazing!!! The Half of It is such a cute movie that gave me all the feelings too !! And I have yet to read the sequel to Girls of Paper and Fire too, even though I’ve read and loved (so much!!!) the first book! 😛
