Reading Rush TBR!

Hi, friends!! I decided a whole day and a half ago that I would do the Reading Rush this year since I already have a significant number of books I want to read before the end of the month (like….too many. send help) and I could match books from my July TBR to the challenges, so I figured why not. Since this readathon starts today, I figured I’ll try to make this post as short as I can so we can all jump into reading books as soon as possible.

Challenge I: Read a book that matches the color of your birthstone

(September, sapphire)

Book I: The Mall by Megan McCafferty

I have to read this for a blog tour that is supposed to be up,,,uh,,,,next week, so I should probably get on this one. I am planning to start this one first, but we will see what happens. Ignore the fact that this cover doesn’t precisely match the sapphire gem, I was assured on twitter that it is close enough so I will be going with it.

Challenge II: Read a book that starts with the word “the”

Book II: The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows by Olivia Waite

I have had this arc since early May and still haven’t read it because I have sucked at reading arcs lately, but this comes out on the 28th so I really need to read and review it soon. I started it whenever I got approved for it and the first chapter was really good, I have just been having issues with physically reading lately that I am hoping this readathon will push me through.

Challenge III: Read a book inspired by a movie you’ve already seen

Book III (and IV): Queen’s Shadow and Queen’s Peril by E.K. Johnston

I have audiobooks for both of these novels and cannot wait to listen to them. I absolutely love Star Wars and my favorite character from the prequels is Padme, so like, two whole books all about her? Developing her backstory further? Sign me the fuck up. I am ready. This means that I may be inclined to rewatch a prequel this week which would be unfortunate for my reading habits, but also Natalie Portman is very very pretty and if I have to rewatch one I suppose I have no option. Also,,,,the cover for Queen’s Shadow is half the of the outfit she wears while fighting in Attack of the Clones, so like, Padme fighting and training? I would like to see it.

Challenge IV: Read the first book you touch

Book V: Sally Ride: America’s First Woman in Space by Lynn Sherr

For choosing the book for this challenge, I enlisted the help of my beloved boxer, Dozer. He was very well compensated for his time (with two treats on the four books and another when he was done) and I deeply appreciate his help.

Challenge V: Read a book outside of your house

Book VI: Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender

I don’t really do “outside” because I live in the south and it is very hot all the damn time and I burn very very easily, but conveniently I work for a family across town, so I will just read this while the kids play video games and/or rewatch the same Scooby Doo episodes for the fifth time. (For the record, their mom knows that I read while they do this stuff and is completely fine with it. Just wanted to like, make that clear lol). I have a physical copy, an ebook copy, and an audiobook for this book so I will likely listen to the audio while following along on my kindle, which is honestly my favorite way to read, so I am very excited.

Challenge VI: Read a book in a genre that you’ve always wanted to read more of

Book VII: Spellhacker by M.K. England

I have never been a big fantasy or sci-fi fan, but I read England’s debut earlier this year and absolutely loved it, so I am pretty excited for this one. Plus, it is queer so, there is that.

Challenge VII: Read a book that takes place on a different continent

Book VIII: The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth

Yes, I read this book last month. Yes, I am reading it again. But, in my defense, it is the Literary Lesbian book of the month, so I don’t really have a choice. Alongside of this one, I may also read The Henna Wars for this challenge if my hold for that book ever comes in from the library.

Because I cannot stop giving myself over ambitious TBRS, here are some other books I would like to get to this week:

I Kissed Alice by Anna Birch

Defy Me by Tahereh Mafi

Imagine Me by Tahereh Mafi

I think that this might be enough books to try and tackle in one week, but we shall see I suppose. Here is to trying to actually vlog this week and read lots of books! What about you, are you doing the reading rush? What are you planning on reading?
