My Friends Choose My TBR For April and May!

Hi, friends! Long time, no see! I took a hiatus from book twitter and blogging and basically everything due to a really heavy course load and mental health issues, but my semester is officially finished as of next Monday (the 19th!) so I am gearing up to get back into this community and back into the things I love. In order to do that, I had my three best friends each pick out three books they wanted me to read in the next month and a halfish alongside of the series I have already started/books I have on hold from the library. So, let’s jump right in to my tbr for the next little while!

Brianna’s Picks

I had Brianna pick three books from my unread sapphic books shelf on Goodreads and I am really excited to finally get to these books, they sound amazing and I am glad she chose them!

  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
    • Brianna has been wanting me to read this book for years (as in I put it on my tbr in 2019 because of her) and have no idea why I am just now getting around to it, I am sure I will love it but I guess the hype has been somewhat overwhelming and led to me avoiding this so I am glad to have the push to finally read this one.
  • The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski
    • This sapphic fantasy is so popular and everyone (Brianna included) loves it and I am sure I will too! I have been holding off on this one because I know this is a book I will have to have the audiobook for as well as the ebook so I can fully comprehend the world building and plot, but I now have both of those so I am excited to start this one!
  • Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron
    • I meant to pick this up this past fall when the audio released, but that didn’t happen due to school so I am very excited to jump into this one. It has great reviews and so many of my friends love it so I can’t wait to talk about it with them!

After Brianna, I had my two irl best friends pick out what was supposed to be two (but ended up being three) books from two stacks. Caitlin was given a stack of middle grades and Katlin was given a stack of YA, mainly YA contemporaries but there were a few fantasy included as well.

Caitlin’s Picks

  • The Dragon Warrior by Katie Zhao
    • I kind of put these two books in the stack knowing my friend was bound to pick them up and it turns out I was right, which excites me very much. These covers are so pretty and I am in the mood for a new middle grade fantasy experience, so I am very much looking forward to reading these.
  • The Fallen Hero by Katie Zhao
    • Same thing here, I am very excited to read this series! I also would like to note here that Caitlin’s reasoning for picking these two was “oooh, dragons!” which is very relatable.
  • Ana on the Edge by A.J. Sass
    • I got this book in December through the LGBTQ+ Reads patreon and have been very curious about it ever since. I haven’t heard that much about it, but it has great reviews and apparently will most likely make me emotional, so that’s fun.

Katlin’s Picks

  • Anger Is a Gift by Mark Oshiro
    • I picked this book up sometime last fall after hearing such great things about it and Mark’s writing in general, so I am really excited to read this sometime in the next monthish. I will admit I don’t really know that much about what this book is about, so I am excited to find out more.
  • Darius the Great Is Not Okay by Adib Khorram
    • This will be my third (?) reread of this book and I cannot explain how much it means to me, I love Darius and his whole family with my entire heart and the mental health representation is so so good and I literally think of this book all the time.
  • Darius the Great Deserves Better by Adib Khorram
    • Despite this being one of my most anticipated releases of the year last year, I never actually read it? I think its because I love the first one so so much I am worried this one will never live up to my expectations, but it is time to find out if that worry is warranted or not lol.

Other Books…

Despite this being a “my friends pick my tbr” thing, I realized there was no way I would be able to read nine books by the end of April when I have exams this whole week, so I decided to extend that into May and just add on a few more books that have recently come out/I’ve been saving for when school gets out!

  • One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston
    • The fact that I have had an arc of this for so long and haven’t touched it is a testament to how bad my mental health/stress levels have been for the past yearish, but I can’t wait to devour this book as a reward to myself for getting through this school year.
  • Cool for the Summer by Dahlia Adler
    • I really want to read and review this before this releases in May, so let’s hope that happens. Either way, I am super hyped to read this and blast betty by Taylor Swift on repeat.
  • The Last Fallen Star by Graci Kim
    • This book comes out in May and I am so excited I’m sure I will dive right into it. I mean, look at that stunning cover! Read the plot summary!! It just sounds so good and I am completely prepared for this to become a new favorite.
  • Inside Out & Back Again by Thanhha Sai
    • Caitlin actually bought me this book back in January (? Or December? Time is fake) because she really wants me to read it as its one of her favorite books and it sounds so so good and I can’t wait to finally read this and talk about it with her.

Well, this has been my lengthy tbr! I am going to try my hardest to stick to it, especially the nine books my friends chose for me, but we will see what happens. What are you reading this month? Let’s chat in the comments!
