Hi, friends!! Sasha and Amber started the series WLW Wednesday on their blog to talk about the recent sapphic books they have been reading and were kind enough to invite others to participate too, so I had to join. I don’t know if I will do this series every Wednesday or every other Wednesday, it depends on how many sapphic books I manage to read each week. Last week, I read five*, so let’s talk about them!!
*yes I am aware four of them are comic books
I watched Legend of Korra recently and I am utterly obsessed. If you follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed I am basically just a full time Korrasami stan. That being said, it was clear I had to read the Korra comics, especially since that is like the only place for canon Korrasami content.
For the comic itself, they were fast paced and wonderful, I felt like I was still watching the show and it’s like I could hear the voice actors reading the character’s lines, 10/10 great experience.
The second sapphic book of last week was the other Korra comic, and while this had slightly less Korrasami content, I still really enjoyed it. It was the same thing where it felt like I was still just laying and watching the tv show, all of the characters were perfect as always and I loved it.
I also really liked how this comic wrapped up some of the loose ends about what was happening with the earth kingdom/empire/whatever it is it is being called these days.
Yes, this is another Avatar thing. No, I am honestly not sorry about it.
Rise of Kyoshi is the first of two novels following Avatar Kyoshi and how she came into her Avatar powers and the challenges her and her Team Avatar had to face. I gave this book five stars and I absolutely loved it, Kyoshi is such a great character and I love learning more about her. This book is darker than the ALTA show, just so you are warned, but it is also just so good.
Also, Arin ❤ Kyoshi and Rangi.
This was a reread and I had just as much fun as I did the last time, here is my review from that read:
This was a fun and quick graphic novel with some very cute sapphic content, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The art style and coloring were amazing and I really enjoyed that, but the plot didn’t keep me as interested as I thought it would. I couldn’t suspend my beliefs that this was realistic at all, which made it very hard to enjoy. However, I think that if you should find a way to not think about how it was totally unrealistic, it would be a fun mystery to get lost in
This was my first time reading this comic and I actually loved it so much more than the first?? The art was so good and I loved the story a lot more, but that could just be my whole fascination with space coming through.
I feel like I don’t have much to say about these? They’re very pretty and cute graphic novels about a sapphic detective, so if that doesn’t sell you on them I don’t know what to say lol. I’m planning on reading the next two volumes this week and I cannot wait, especially for the fourth one because its cover is *chef’s kiss*.
Okay, so, those are the five sapphic things I read last week. If my reading goes to plan, I will likely be doing another one of these next week, but I also just started a big Teen Wolf rewatch and start school next week, so I guess we’ll see. (Also this is permission to yell at me to read anytime after 5 pm EST every evening lol <3)
What about you? Have you read any of these? Did you read anything sapphic recently? Let’s chat in the comments!
